Ukraine has been included in the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T)
The Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) has expanded its reach, now including routes through Ukraine and Moldova.
The European Council has approved this decision, which involves extending four transport corridors into Ukraine (to Mariupol) and Moldova while reducing cross-border connections with Russia and Belarus.
This expansion will allow Ukraine to build a modern transport infrastructure, enhancing economic, social and territorial cohesion within the EU.
Once approved, the legislative act will be signed by the Presidents of the Council and the European Parliament and published in the EU’s official journal in the coming weeks.

“The TEN-T network will be developed or modernized step-by-step with a new regulation that sets clear deadlines for its completion in three phases: by 2030 for the core network, 2040 for the extended core network and 2050 for the comprehensive network. An intermediate deadline of 2040 has been introduced to accelerate the completion of large-scale, mainly cross-border projects, such as closing railway gaps, ahead of the 2050 final deadline for the comprehensive network. For example, a new high-speed rail link between Porto, Vigo, Budapest, and Bucharest is expected to be completed by 2040. Another example is that, upon completion of the network, passengers will be able to travel between Copenhagen and Hamburg by train in 2.5 hours instead of the current 4.5 hours”, explained Georges Gilkinet, Belgium’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mobility.
