Ranking of the World’s Largest Seaports

Today, the countries with the best maritime connections lead the ranking of the best ports in the world. It is estimated that over 90% of cargo is transported by sea, and therefore, governments and private companies constantly invest in improving the infrastructure of their port facilities.

Ukrainian seaports were not included in the list. Currently, only a few are operating in the Odesa region. The Azov and part of the Black Sea ports are occupied.

The top ten most important ports in the world are as follows:

Port of Shanghai (China). It tops the ranking for the largest container traffic and positions itself as the best port in the world both in terms of maritime connections and the automation of its facilities.

Port of Singapore – the second most important port in the world, connecting over 600 ports in 123 countries.

Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan (China) has container terminals but has established itself as a major port for the storage, delivery, and transshipment of fuel.

Port of Shenzhen (China) has 140 berths, including 51 berths for vessels with a deadweight of 11,000 tons (DWT) and more.

Port of Guangzhou (China) is one of the most important activity centers in southern China. It has extensive connections with the ports of Europe and was once the main dock of the Silk Road.

Port of Qingdao (China) is located on the so-called New Silk Road, and its construction is financed exclusively by two large port operators. It is a fully automated port.

Port of Busan (South Korea) this year became one of the ports that saw the largest increase in traffic due to the recent closure of some Chinese ports due to COVID-19 outbreaks.

Port of Tianjin (China). This dock is the largest in northern China and also the main gateway to Beijing, a large province of the Asian giant.

Port of Hong Kong (China). Thanks to the government’s open approach to infrastructure management, we are beginning to see the first signs of innovation that set this hub apart in the country.

Port of Rotterdam (Netherlands) – the only European port that is included in the world ranking. It is a strategic point and gateway for goods to the European continent on the main global sea routes, and during 2021 it moved 3,709,000 TEUs.
