At the border with Romania, a new checkpoint will be constructed
Ukraine and Romania will open a sixth international checkpoint, Bila Tserkva – Sighetu Marmației. It will primarily focus on processing freight transport. According to the Ministry of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine, the plan includes accommodating up to 500 freight trucks, around 1,000 cars and 100 buses daily.
Currently, preparations are underway to secure governmental agreements for the project, after which a new land plot in the Zakarpattia region will be registered. Project documentation, including cost estimates, will then be developed for the checkpoint and an access road to the border crossing. The preliminary construction cost is estimated at approximately 1.6 billion hryvnias.
At present, there are five automobile checkpoints and one ferry checkpoint along the border with Romania. Only two of these process freight trucks: Porubne – Siret and Dyakove – Halmeu. Together, these checkpoints handle no more than 400 freight trucks per day.
